People always feel confused about different kinds of circuit breakers. Actually circuit breakers can be classified using different criteria. Based on voltage range, circuit breaker can be classified into:
1. Low voltage CB (less than 1kV)
2. Medium voltage CB (1-52kV)
3. High voltage CB (66-220kV)]
4. Extra high voltage CB (300-765kV)
5. Ultra high voltage CB (above 765kV)
Low voltage circuit breaker (once called automatic switch) is a kind of switch appliance, which can not only connect and break both normal load and overload circuits, but also can connect and cut off short-circuits. In addition to controlling function in electric circuits, low voltage circuit breaker can also protect against overload, short-circuit, and earth leakage, etc. Because of its wide applications in low volotage distribution system, all the classifications as blow are all referring to low voltage circuit breaker.
According to applications, low voltage circuit breaker can be classified into:
1) mini circuit breaker for conductor protection, mainly used for lighting circuits and protecting household appliances, with rated current range 6~125A;
KNB6-125 series Miniature Circuit Breaker is mainly used in the line of AC 50/60Hz, rated working voltage to 240V/415V, and rated current to 125A as protection against overload and short-circuit.
KNB1-63 series Miniature Circuit Breaker used for motor operation and protection in infrequent operation occasion, with rated current range 6~63A;
2)Residual Current Circuit Breaker. Residual current circuit breaker can cut off short circuit before short circuit current goes upto maximum value. Residual current circuit breaker has stronger breaking capacity ability than normal circuit breaker. The short-circuit making and breaking capacity can be up to 6kA, but the value of Residual current circuit breaker can be reaching 10kA.
Of course there are still more different kinds of circuit breakers, but circuit breakers listed above are widely applied residentially, commercially and also industrially.
